IEM World Championship Groups Announced

IEM Banner

Teams across the world have competed and earned their points, and the payoff is nearly here. The finals for the IEM World Championship are nearing us, and both the teams and the groupings have been determined.

Four teams will represent the NA scene: Counter Logic Gaming, Curse Gaming, Team Dignitas and Team SoloMid. While it's tough to hate those odds, they'll be going up against some of the fiercest competitions currently in the League of Legends scene, including Moscow 5, SK Gaming and World Elite. The full group breakdown:

Group A
  • CLG
  • fnatic
  • iG
  • Millenium
  • Team Dignitas
  • World Elite
Group B
  • Curse
  • EHOME
  • Moscow 5
  • SK Gaming
  • Sypher
  • Team SoloMid

The IEM World Championship will take place at the CeBit in Hanover, Germany, from March 6 through March 10. Best of luck to the participants; they're going to need it.

Interesting, personally I think group A looks the hardest, but with the recent M5 hype I guess a lot of people will disagree.

However, one thing we can all agree on is that no match will last beyond the 25 minute mark, right TSM?

Hah.

What I like about this event is we don't have any clear favorites in either group. It's honestly hard to look at any team and say they don't belong. Yeah, Curse and SK didn't look great at IEM Kiev, but both were last-minute entrants with rosters that were, um, messes. Even if they haven't been winning lately, CLG is a very, very good team. TSM's getting firsthand experience with the EU scene. Moscow 5 won Kiev, then took second at KoE and was eliminated by SK in the CDiscount Cup's first round. We don't know much about the Asian teams, aside from WE winning IEM Guangzhou.

Maybe some of this changes in the next month, maybe it doesn't. But it's definitely, definitely exciting to look forward to.
